Why this annotation

Hub genes CA2 and CA1 (carbonic anhydrases) mediate HCO3-/Cl- exchange critical for colonocyte fluid transport. FABP1 (fatty acid binding protein 1) is a canonical enterocyte/colonocyte lipid absorption marker. HMGCS2 (HMG-CoA synthase 2) drives ketogenesis from butyrate in colonocytes — a defining colonocyte energy metabolism gene. B4GALNT2 produces the Sda/CAD blood group antigen, a colon-specific glycan. SLC26A2 is a sulfate/chloride transporter expressed in colonocytes. ANPEP (aminopeptidase N/CD13) is a brush border enzyme. ACADS performs short-chain fatty acid beta-oxidation. AKR1B10 and UGT2B17 are phase I/II detoxification enzymes. HSD11B2 inactivates cortisol in colonocytes. ADIRF regulates lipid metabolism. DDC (DOPA decarboxylase) is expressed in enteroendocrine/colonocyte lineages. Strongly downregulated in inflammation, recovers with treatment/remission — classic loss-of-differentiation pattern in IBD. Together with neighbor M91, defines the mature absorptive colonocyte program.
