XPR1 — Xenotropic and polytropic retrovirus receptor 1

XPR1 belongs to a gene co-expression module in 1 of 28 SCUBA cell types. Each module groups genes that rise and fall together in that cell type; the genes it shares a module with are its closest co-expression partners there.

Function

Inorganic ion transporter that mediates phosphate ion export across plasma membrane. Plays a major role in phosphate homeostasis, preventing intracellular phosphate accumulation and possible calcium phosphate precipitation, ultimately preserving calcium signaling. Binds inositol hexakisphosphate (Ins6P) and similar inositol polyphosphates, such as 5-diphospho-inositol pentakisphosphate (5-InsP7), which are important intracellular signaling molecules involved in regulation of phosphate flux.
