Why this annotation
The module is dominated by canonical immediate-early response genes: FOSB and JUNB (AP-1 transcription factors), BTG2 (anti-proliferative immediate-early gene), EGR1 (early growth response transcription factor), IER2 (immediate early response 2), KLF4 (stress-responsive transcription factor). These are hallmarks of either cellular activation or dissociation/handling stress. In the context of mast cells in colon scRNA-seq, this pattern is consistent with dissociation-induced stress artifact (immediate-early gene induction during tissue processing), though it could also reflect genuine mast cell activation. ODC1 (ornithine decarboxylase, polyamine synthesis) and CCNL1 (Cyclin L1) are additional members. CLK1 and SRSF7 link to splicing regulation. The neighbor M70 contains Mediator/chromatin regulatory machinery, consistent with upstream transcriptional activation. The immediate-early gene signature is the dominant feature.

Module annotations were drafted by a large language model from the module's genes, then reviewed and approved by a domain expert. See sources & licences.
