TIMM23 — Translocase of inner mitochondrial membrane 23

TIMM23 belongs to a gene co-expression module in 1 of 28 SCUBA cell types. Each module groups genes that rise and fall together in that cell type; the genes it shares a module with are its closest co-expression partners there.

Function

Essential component of the TIM23 complex, a complex that mediates the translocation of transit peptide-containing proteins across the mitochondrial inner membrane. Has a role in the activation of stress-induced mitophagy by protecting PINK1 from OMA1-mediated degradation and facilitating its accumulation at the outer mitochondrial membrane in response to depolarization.
