Why this annotation
Hub genes are canonical immediate early genes (FOS, FOSB, JUN, JUNB, EGR1, NR4A1) co-expressed with multiple heat shock proteins (DNAJB1, HSP90AA1, HSPA1A, HSPA1B, HSPA8, HSPH1). This combination is the hallmark dissociation-induced stress artifact in scRNA-seq, where mechanical and enzymatic tissue dissociation triggers IEG and HSP transcription. The module is significantly decreased in UC inflammation and recovers with remission, consistent with a technical artifact modulated by tissue integrity rather than a true biological program.
