AFMID — Arylformamidase

AFMID belongs to a gene co-expression module in 1 of 28 SCUBA cell types. Each module groups genes that rise and fall together in that cell type; the genes it shares a module with are its closest co-expression partners there.

Chromosome17: 78187358-78207702
Predicted locationIntracellular
Essential geneNo
Protein classEnzymes, Metabolic proteins, Predicted intracellular proteins
Molecular functionHydrolase
Biological processTryptophan catabolism

Function

Catalyzes the hydrolysis of N-formyl-L-kynurenine to L- kynurenine, the second step in the kynurenine pathway of tryptophan degradation. Kynurenine may be further oxidized to nicotinic acid, NAD(H) and NADP(H). Required for elimination of toxic metabolites
