Why this annotation
This module is extremely coherent (core) with very low expression (0.032) and detection (1.9%). Hub genes AZU1 (azurocidin), ELANE (neutrophil elastase), PRTN3 (proteinase 3), MPO (myeloperoxidase), CTSG (cathepsin G), RNASE3 (eosinophil cationic protein), RNASE2 (eosinophil-derived neurotoxin), CFD (complement factor D) are canonical primary/azurophil granule proteins expressed during early granulopoiesis/neutrophil promyelocyte stage. CEBPD is a granulocytic transcription factor. This is a textbook early granulocyte/promyelocyte granule gene signature. The very low pct positive is consistent with a rare granulocytic progenitor subset within HPCs. PLPPR3 is the outlier but may be co-expressed stochastically. This module clearly represents early granulocyte (promyelocyte) granule biogenesis.
