SCUBA

HKDC1 — Hexokinase domain containing 1

HKDC1 belongs to a gene co-expression module in 1 of 28 SCUBA cell types. Each module groups genes that rise and fall together in that cell type; the genes it shares a module with are its closest co-expression partners there.

Function

Catalyzes the phosphorylation of hexose to hexose 6- phosphate, although at very low level compared to other hexokinases. Has low glucose phosphorylating activity compared to other hexokinases. Involved in glucose homeostasis and hepatic lipid accumulation. Required to maintain whole-body glucose homeostasis during pregnancy; however additional evidences are required to confirm this role (By similarity).
