Why this annotation
Hub and member genes are markers of mature, absorptive surface colonocytes. CEACAM1 is a differentiated colonocyte glycoprotein. SLC44A4 is an apical choline transporter enriched in mature colonocytes. HKDC1 is a hexokinase domain protein expressed in differentiated intestinal epithelium. GCNT3 is a mucin-type O-glycan branching enzyme that is highly expressed in colonic epithelium. SPTBN1 and FHL2 are cytoskeletal/scaffold genes associated with polarized epithelium. IFNGR1 is broadly expressed on differentiated epithelium. Expression is uniform, high and core-coherent, consistent with a shared terminal differentiation program rather than a stress or contamination signal. Several members (SPTBN1, LRRFIP1, CCDC186) are long genes, which gives it some overlap with neighbor M71.
