NINJ2 — Ninjurin 2
NINJ2 belongs to a gene co-expression module in 1 of 28 SCUBA cell types. Each module groups genes that rise and fall together in that cell type; the genes it shares a module with are its closest co-expression partners there.

Function
Its role in unclear. In contrast to NINJ1 paralog, does not mediate plasma membrane rupture (cytolysis) downstream of necroptotic and pyroptotic programmed cell death. While it is able to oligomerize and form filaments, filaments are curved toward the intracellular space, preventing circularization to mediate plasma membrane rupture. May act as a homophilic transmembrane adhesion molecule involved in nerve regeneration. Promotes axonal growth.
