Why this annotation
Hub genes include HOPX and ITGA1 (tissue-resident memory/IEL markers), KLRD1/KLRC1/KLRC2 (CD94/NKG2A/NKG2C NK-like inhibitory receptors), and TRDC/TRGC1/TRGC2 (gamma-delta TCR constant regions). Together, this signature defines innate-like intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) — either γδ T cells or NKT-like CD8 cells with gut tissue residence. HOPX+ITGA1+KLRC1 is a canonical IEL/gut-resident signature, and TRDC/TRGC1/TRGC2 confirm γδ TCR expression. Neighbor M74 also reflects non-conventional gut CD8 programs (Tc17), supporting a shared innate-like gut lymphocyte neighborhood.
