SVIP — Small VCP interacting protein
SVIP belongs to a gene co-expression module in 3 of 28 SCUBA cell types. Each module groups genes that rise and fall together in that cell type; the genes it shares a module with are its closest co-expression partners there.

Function
Negative regulator of the ER-associated degradation pathway (ERAD) of misfolded proteins. It competes with AMFR/gp78 for binding VCP/p97, and inhibits AMFR/gp78-VCP/p97 complex formation that is required for degradation of ERAD substrates. Involved in the regulation of adrenal cortisol and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) biosynthesis.
