Why this annotation
Nearly every gene in this module is a canonical platelet or megakaryocyte marker. TUBB1 and TUBA4A are the platelet-specific tubulins required for proplatelet formation. PF4 (CXCL4) and PPBP (CXCL7) are the most abundant platelet alpha-granule chemokines. GP9 encodes GPIbβ of the von Willebrand factor receptor complex. TREML1 and CMTM5 are platelet-specific surface proteins. GNG11 encodes the platelet Gγ11 subunit. F13A1 (Factor XIIIa) is stored in platelet alpha-granules. CCL5 (RANTES) is secreted from platelet granules upon activation. NRGN is expressed in platelets. TMEM40 and CAVIN2 are megakaryocyte/platelet membrane proteins. This is the terminal platelet biogenesis transcriptional program, more differentiated than neighbor module M39.
