Why this annotation
All top hub genes are core mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation components: UQCRC2 and UQCRFS1 (Complex III/ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase), ATP5PB, ATP5F1B, ATP5F1A (Complex V/ATP synthase subunits), NDUFA9 and NDUFS3 (Complex I/NADH dehydrogenase), SLC25A3 (mitochondrial phosphate carrier supporting ATP synthesis), and GHITM (mitochondrial membrane integrity). This is a tight, coherent OxPhos module. Strongly downregulated in both UC and CD inflammation, partially restored by CD treatment, consistent with mitochondrial dysfunction in IBD.
