Why this annotation
KRT7 marks regenerative/fetal-like or metaplastic epithelium in IBD. REG4 is a goblet/regenerative cell marker upregulated in IBD regeneration. MMP7 and TFF1 are wound-healing and restitution factors. SERPINA1 and SERPINB5 are stress-protective serpins. ANXA1 has anti-inflammatory/restitution roles. AZGP1 is expressed in regenerative glandular epithelium. This module resembles the 'regenerative epithelial' or 'fetal-like' metaplastic state described in IBD, upregulated in active inflammation. Distinct from the IFN-γ modules (M53, M93) despite being a neighbor — driven by epithelial regeneration rather than immune signaling.
