GDNF — Glial cell derived neurotrophic factor

GDNF belongs to a gene co-expression module in 2 of 28 SCUBA cell types. Each module groups genes that rise and fall together in that cell type; the genes it shares a module with are its closest co-expression partners there.

Function

Neurotrophic factor that enhances survival and morphological differentiation of dopaminergic neurons and increases their high- affinity dopamine uptake. Acts by binding to its coreceptor, GFRA1, leading to autophosphorylation and activation of the RET receptor. Involved in the development of the neural crest.
