Why this annotation
Nearly all hub genes are sharply restricted to a small fraction of EC cells (JAKMIP1 54x, CCDC83 35x, ISLR2 25x, CEACAM20 17x, FOLH1 17x), combining small-intestinal brush-border genes (CEACAM20, MUC17, PIK3C2G, FOLH1) with neuronal-type genes (NTNG1, ISLR2, JAKMIP1). This localized pattern marks a distinct, plausibly villus small-intestinal EC subpopulation, though EC–enterocyte doublets cannot be fully excluded.
