Why this annotation
This module contains the stem cell marker LGR5 together with the crypt/stem-associated transporter SLC12A2 (NKCC1, weak membership) and the transcription factors ARID5B, ETS2 and FOXP2. Co-expression with Paneth cells likely reflects crypt-base niche proximity, a stem-like/progenitor transitional state, or doublets with stem cells. Expression is uniform, so this does not appear to be a discrete contaminating population. RETNLB is a goblet/secretory progenitor-associated gene, and CNTN4 and CASK are less specific. Placing it next to the housekeeping module M7 suggests an epithelial-crypt axis.
