Why this annotation
All top hub genes are MHC class II molecules: HLA-DPA1, HLA-DPB1, HLA-DRA, HLA-DRB1, HLA-DQA1, HLA-DQB1, HLA-DMA, HLA-DMB. This is a tightly coherent (core) module representing the canonical antigen presentation machinery. Monocytes are professional antigen-presenting cells and upregulate MHC-II during inflammation. The strong upregulation in UC/CD inflammation and reduction in remission is consistent with activated antigen-presenting monocytes. PEA15 and SPINT2 are peripheral members. Neighbor context: this module complements M21 which also involves CIITA-driven MHC-II but in a DC-like context.
