Why this annotation
This module has very low mean expression (0.018) and only 2.1% detection rate, consistent with a rare proliferating cell population. All hub genes are canonical cell cycle markers: BIRC5 (survivin, G2/M), MKI67 (Ki-67, proliferation), TROAP (trophinin-associated protein, mitosis), CENPF (centromere protein F, G2/M), PCLAF (PCNA-associated factor, S-phase), PTTG1 (securin, mitotic checkpoint), H2AC14 and H1-5 (histones, DNA replication/packaging), and STMN1 (stathmin, microtubule dynamics in mitosis). This is a classic mitotic/proliferating cell module, likely representing a small fraction of cycling monocyte precursors or proliferating monocytes. The modest disease association (slight trend up in inflammation) is consistent with increased monocyte proliferation during intestinal inflammation. As a neighbor to M55, both modules share low expression and rare cell detection, but M61 is clearly a cell cycle artifact/program rather than contamination.
