Why this annotation
GIMAP1, GIMAP4, GIMAP6, GIMAP7, GIMAP8 are GTPase immune-associated proteins predominantly expressed in T and NK cells, where they regulate lymphocyte survival and apoptosis. TNFAIP8L2 (TIPE2) is an immune suppressor expressed in lymphocytes and monocytes. P2RY13 is a purinergic receptor expressed on monocytes/DCs. FGD2 is a FYVE domain protein expressed in monocytes/DCs. IRF2 is a transcription factor. The dominant GIMAP signature strongly suggests T-cell or NK-cell contamination, or a monocyte subpopulation expressing lymphocyte survival genes. The core coherence and uniform expression across subsets, combined with very low mean expression (0.173), is consistent with ambient RNA from lymphocytes or a rare monocyte-lymphocyte doublet population. Strongly up in CD inflammation.
