Why this annotation
MRPL34, MRPS34, and MRPS36 are mitochondrial ribosomal proteins (large and small subunit), and TIMM8B encodes a component of the TIM8-TIM13 complex that imports mitochondrial ribosomal proteins. Together these four genes define a mitochondrial translation/ribosome program. ECH1 (fatty acid oxidation) and UFC1 (UFMylation, ER-associated ribosome quality control) are supportive of mitochondrial/metabolic activity. GTF3C6 (RNA Pol III), SS18L2 (chromatin), BRK1 (actin/WAVE), PCBD1 (BH4 metabolism), and SMIM26 are peripheral. The dominant program is mitochondrial ribosome/translation in pre_tuft progenitors.
