Why this annotation
This module contains a highly coherent set of Tc17/MAIT17-associated genes. IL17A is the defining Tc17 cytokine. AHR (aryl hydrocarbon receptor) is the master transcription factor driving Tc17 differentiation in MAIT cells. CCR9 is a gut-homing chemokine receptor co-expressed with IL-17 in mucosal T cells. ITGA1 (CD49a) marks tissue-resident T cells. LAYN (layilin) is expressed on regulatory/exhausted T cells but also tissue-resident MAIT. HIC1 is a transcriptional repressor linked to Th17 and tissue residency programs. GFPT2 (hexosamine pathway) supports metabolic reprogramming in Th17. PTPN13 modulates TCR signaling. IL2 co-production with IL17A is characteristic of activated MAIT/Tc17 cells. ITM2C and MARCHF3 are membrane-associated. TMIGD2 (CD28H) is an immune co-stimulatory receptor on T cells. BAIAP2 links to cytoskeletal remodeling. CA10 is more peripheral. Overall, the dominant program is Tc17/MAIT17 with tissue-homing features.
