Why this annotation
The dominant hub genes are MHC class II molecules (HLA-DRA, HLA-DPB1, HLA-DPA1, HLA-DRB1, HLA-DMA, HLA-DMB, HLA-DQB1), CD74 (MHC-II chaperone invariant chain), and CIITA (master MHC-II transcriptional activator). This is a tightly coherent MHC class II antigen presentation module. LMO2 and FLI1 are endothelial transcription factors, consistent with the endothelial neighborhood (M49, M26), suggesting this may represent antigen-presenting endothelial cells known to exist in intestinal tissue. TNFSF10 (TRAIL) adds an inflammatory/apoptotic component. The module is significantly downregulated during IBD inflammation and recovers in remission, consistent with loss of homeostatic antigen presentation capacity.
