Why this annotation
All hub genes are canonical ECM/stromal matrix components: LUM (lumican, proteoglycan), DCN (decorin, proteoglycan), VCAN (versican, proteoglycan), FBLN1 (fibulin-1, ECM glycoprotein), MFAP4 (microfibril-associated), CFD (complement factor D, adipose/stromal marker), ABCA8 (lipid transporter in stromal cells), CCL11 (eotaxin, stromal chemokine), CTSK (cathepsin K, matrix degradation). This is a tight ECM-producing/stromal matrix module. Notably upregulated in remission (delta_remission UC 0.398, CD 0.363) and significantly upregulated in inflammation, suggesting reactive ECM remodeling. Neighbor to M59 (pericyte identity) and M43 (also ECM), consistent with a stromal ECM production program.
