Why this annotation

This module has very low mean expression (0.045) and very low pct positive (6.5%), with many genes 'not detected' in top subsets. Hub genes include PTPN4 (tyrosine phosphatase), FAN1 (DNA repair nuclease), TUBGCP5 (gamma-tubulin complex, centrosome), CCDC66 (cilia/centrosome), ATM (DNA damage kinase), MCPH1 (DNA damage/centrosome), AKNA (transcription factor), VSIG1 (enriched 37.6x in inf_colono — a known colonocyte/stomach marker), TNFSF15 (TNF superfamily, enriched in inf_colono). The extremely low expression, many 'not detected' genes, and no significant disease associations suggest this is a poorly expressed or lowly detected module. VSIG1 is a known marker of surface colonocytes and is dramatically enriched in inf_colono. The module may represent a rare or lowly expressed colonocyte state. However, the mix of DNA repair (FAN1, ATM, MCPH1), centrosome (TUBGCP5, CCDC66), and inflammatory (TNFSF15, VSIG1) genes with weak/moderate membership for the inflammatory genes suggests a mixed or poorly defined module. The DNA damage/genome integrity genes (ATM, FAN1, MCPH1, NBN-neighbor) are the most coherent biological theme. Given the low expression and mixed content, this likely represents a DNA damage response program in a rare colonocyte subpopulation.

Module annotations were drafted by a large language model from the module's genes, then reviewed and approved by a domain expert. See sources & licences.
