Why this annotation
POSTN (periostin) is a canonical myofibroblast/activated fibroblast marker and ECM protein. ZEB1 is a mesenchymal transcription factor associated with fibroblast activation and EMT. FOXL1 marks a specific intestinal subepithelial fibroblast population (telocyte-like). PDGFD is a PDGF family ligand expressed by stromal fibroblasts. EDNRB (endothelin receptor B) is expressed on fibroblasts and involved in fibroblast activation. This module marks an activated/myofibroblast-like subtype of intestinal fibroblasts, distinct from the quiescent telocyte program in M32. Neighbor context: complements M32's quiescent telocyte identity with an activated state.
