Why this annotation
Hub genes MPZ (Myelin Protein Zero) and PRNP (Prion Protein) are defining markers of myelinating Schwann cells/peripheral myelinating glia. NTM (Neurotrimin) is a neural cell adhesion molecule expressed in glial cells. SPP1 is co-expressed with MPZ in myelinating Schwann cells. CXCL12 supports glial/neural maintenance and is expressed in enteric glia. ALDH1A1 marks enteric glial subpopulations. Together this module represents the myelinating enteric glia (Schwann cell) identity program. The significant downregulation in UC inflammation and partial recovery in remission is consistent with enteric neuropathy and glial dedifferentiation during colonic inflammation. All genes show uniform distribution with no lineage contamination signal, and the module coherence is strong.
