EDEM2 — ER degradation enhancing alpha-mannosidase like protein 2

EDEM2 belongs to a gene co-expression module in 2 of 28 SCUBA cell types. Each module groups genes that rise and fall together in that cell type; the genes it shares a module with are its closest co-expression partners there.

Function

Involved in the endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) pathway that targets misfolded glycoproteins for degradation in an N-glycan-dependent manner. May initiate ERAD by promoting the first mannose trimming step of ERAD substrates, from Man9GlcNAc2 to Man8GlcNAc2. Seems to recognize and bind to exposed hydrophobic regions in target proteins (By similarity).
