Why this annotation
Hub genes are apical solute carriers of mature colonocytes. SLC5A11 and SLC5A12 are sodium-coupled monocarboxylate/inositol transporters. SLC26A2 is a sulfate transporter. SLC6A4 is the serotonin reuptake transporter, paired with MAOB, which degrades serotonin. ACSS1 (acetate activation) and ASPA (acetate release from NAA) mark short-chain fatty acid/acetate utilization. Together this is a terminally differentiated absorptive colonocyte program. It co-varies with the M81 absorptive transporter module.
