Why this annotation
Hub genes LAYN and IKZF4 (Eos) are well-established markers of tumor/tissue-infiltrating regulatory and exhausted/activated CD4 T cells. LAYN marks suppressive Tregs and exhausted T cells; IKZF4 is a Treg transcription factor. CADM1, METTL7A, and PTGIR are co-enriched in tissue-resident suppressive T cells. Strongly upregulated in inflamed IBD tissue and downregulated in remission. This is a tissue Treg/exhaustion-associated regulatory program.
