Why this annotation
The module is dominated by MHC class I genes (HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-C, HLA-E, HLA-F), antigen processing machinery (TAP1, TAP2, TAPBP/tapasin), beta-2-microglobulin (B2M), and interferon-stimulated genes (IFI27, APOL1, APOL6, STAT1). This is a canonical interferon-gamma/type I interferon-driven MHC class I antigen presentation program. The strong upregulation in both UC and CD inflammation (delta ~0.9–1.4) and reversal in remission is consistent with IFN-induced MHC-I upregulation on epithelial cells during IBD. The module is tightly coherent with all hub genes as core members. Neighbor M68 covers MHC class II, further confirming this neighborhood represents coordinated IFN-driven antigen presentation.
