Why this annotation
TFF3 (trefoil factor 3) and SPINK4 are among the most specific goblet cell secretory markers in the colon. ITLN1 (intelectin-1) is a goblet-secreted lectin with antimicrobial function. FKBP11 is an ER peptidyl-prolyl isomerase that folds disulfide-rich secretory proteins. CREB3L1 is a CREB3-family ER stress/UPR transcription factor that drives secretory cell differentiation. SSR4 is part of the TRAP translocon complex for ER import. GNE synthesizes UDP-GlcNAc for O-glycan chains. SLC50A1 transports sugars. REP15 and ENTPD8 support vesicle recycling and nucleotide sugar availability. The module is highly upregulated in inflammation and returns to baseline in remission, consistent with reactive goblet cell hypersecretion. This is the canonical goblet cell identity and ER-mediated secretory protein production program.
