Why this annotation
Hub genes are ubiquitously expressed cytosolic housekeeping proteins: CFL1 (actin depolymerizing factor) and CAPZA2 (actin capping) anchor an actin-turnover flavor, combined with generic maintenance genes (PSMB1 proteasome, PPIA, PRDX1 antioxidant, YWHAH 14-3-3 adaptor, VAPA/RAB2A/TMEM230 vesicle traffic, ENY2 transcription). No subset enrichment, uniform detection at ~50% of cells, moderate-to-high mean expression — the signature of a broadly co-detected housekeeping program rather than a specific SMC state. ELN is the only mesenchymal/ECM gene and shows only moderate membership, likely a peripheral passenger. Its neighbors (M111, M57, M84, M113) are likewise uniform ubiquitous-gene modules, supporting a general cell-maintenance neighborhood; the actin/GTPase flavor is shared with M111 (CDC42, RHOC).
