Why this annotation
SATB2 is a master chromatin organizer and definitive marker of colonocyte differentiation (used diagnostically). HMGCS2 (3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase 2) is a colonocyte differentiation marker involved in ketone body synthesis. KLF5 is a Krüppel-like transcription factor driving intestinal epithelial differentiation. ASCL2 drives intestinal stem cell/progenitor identity. CDK6 participates in cell cycle regulation. ENTPD5 supports glycoprotein processing in the ER. FOXN3, IRF2BP2 are transcriptional regulators. TRABD2A modulates Wnt signaling. The module is strongly down in inflammation and restored in remission, fitting a colonocyte/goblet differentiation program. SATB2, HMGCS2, KLF5, and ASCL2 are all established intestinal epithelial differentiation genes.
