Why this annotation
CA4, OTOP2 and LYPD8 are canonical markers of BEST4+/OTOP2+ and surface colonocytes. CA4 is carbonic anhydrase, OTOP2 is a proton channel, and LYPD8 shields the epithelium from flagellated bacteria. SLCO3A1 and CLCN1 add transport functions, and HSPB1, GSN and CITED1 fit the terminally differentiated surface colonocyte. This reflects apical pH regulation and ion absorption at the luminal surface.
