Why this annotation

This module is unambiguously a Type I interferon (ISG) response signature. The top hub genes are canonical ISGs: MX1, OAS1, OAS2, IFIT3, ISG15, IFI6, IFI44, IFI44L, IFI35, DDX60, EPSTI1, HERC5, SAMD9L, XAF1. Supporting regulators include IRF7 (master ISG transcription factor), EIF2AK2/PKR (antiviral kinase), TRIM22 (antiviral E3 ligase), DTX3L (PARP/ISG complex), GBP4 (interferon-induced GTPase), SP110 (interferon-stimulated nuclear body). All top-ranking hub genes are core/strong members and are well-established ISGs. This is one of the most coherent and interpretable modules in the batch. The uniform expression across subsets reflects that ISG activation can occur in any MAIT subset upon viral stimulation or systemic IFN exposure.

Module annotations were drafted by a large language model from the module's genes, then reviewed and approved by a domain expert. See sources & licences.
