Why this annotation

All top hub genes are canonical type I interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs): RSAD2 (Viperin), IFIT1/2/3/5, MX1/MX2, IFI44/IFI44L/IFI6, ISG15, OAS3, OASL, SAMD9, HELZ2, CMPK2, XAF1, IRF7 — this is a textbook type I IFN (IFN-alpha/beta) antiviral response signature. The module is coherent with nearly all genes showing core or strong membership. The lack of significant disease-state association (all deltas near zero and non-significant) contrasts with the neighboring M87 (IFN-gamma module), suggesting this type I IFN program is constitutively active at low levels or driven by viral/dsRNA sensing independent of IBD inflammation state. The co-expression neighborhood relationship with M87 is explained by shared JAK-STAT signaling downstream of both type I and type II interferons, causing partial overlap in ISG expression. All 18 genes are well-documented type I ISGs.
