CNN2 — Calponin 2

CNN2 belongs to a gene co-expression module in 5 of 28 SCUBA cell types. Each module groups genes that rise and fall together in that cell type; the genes it shares a module with are its closest co-expression partners there.

About the gene

Chromosome19: 1026586-1039068
Predicted locationIntracellular
Essential geneNo
Protein classPlasma proteins, Predicted intracellular proteins
Molecular functionActin-binding, Calmodulin-binding

Function

Thin filament-associated protein that is implicated in the regulation and modulation of smooth muscle contraction. It is capable of binding to actin, calmodulin and tropomyosin. The interaction of calponin with actin inhibits the actomyosin Mg-ATPase activity
