Why this annotation
The module is dominated by canonical BEST4+ colonocyte markers: BEST4 itself, CA7, HEPACAM2, SPIB, UNC5C, ADCY5, NEURL1, CEACAM3, NOTCH2, GUCY2C — all well-established markers of the BEST4+/OTOP2+ colonocyte subpopulation. Nearly every gene shows extreme enrichment in the BEST4 subset (up to 242x). GUCY2C encodes the guanylate cyclase receptor, CA7 is carbonic anhydrase VII, NOTCH2 is a key Notch receptor enriched in this cell type, and SLC2A6 is a glucose transporter. The module is tightly coherent and clearly represents the transcriptional identity of BEST4+ colonocytes, a specialized electrolyte-sensing/secreting colonocyte subtype.
